about

In March of 2014 I was invited by the Danish drummer Kresten Osgood to record in a duo and trio setting with him and bassist Thomas Morgan. Recorded at the tail-end of my self-imposed exile from the downtown New York jazz scene, this album represents to me my reemergence as an entirely different musician, if not person, than the one who had left New York 6 years before, in 2008. I was honored, not only to share the studio with Kresten, with whom I have continued a working relationship and friendship until present, but also to reunite with Thomas, who had been a close friend and frequent collaborator during my New York years. All of the music is completely improvised, with no written material present, save for the series of poems of mine that appear on the third track, "arrival."

I still look back on this recording with fondness for the sense of empathy and humor we were able to carry together throughout. The album was originally released on cassette by Troels Floe, on his now defunct record label Insula Jazz, run out of his record shop of the same name in Copenhagen, that sadly has gone out of business since. I am proud to carry this music into the next stage of its life while honoring the design of its original release and the story therein. It is now available on CD for the first time, and will remain available as a digital download, even when those sell out. My thanks to Kresten and Thomas for their permission to carry this album to its second stage of fruition, and to Troels, and W. Wagner who designed the original cassette cover on which the new cover is based. Thanks also to our engineer Peter Karl for so pristinely and faithfully capturing the sounds and the space in which this music took place. I really hope you all enjoy.
